πŸ”— LinkedIn & Robin: How does the synchronization work?

#linkedin #extension #messages #sync #explanation Learn how Robin retrieves your LinkedIn messages, why there might be a delay, and how to keep the connection stable using Chrome or Edge.

πŸ’‘ What & Why

Robin connects to your LinkedIn account to display conversations clearly within the platform. Since we 'mirror' LinkedIn's data rather than operating a separate messaging service, Robin relies on what LinkedIn makes available.

Important: LinkedIn is always the "Source of Truth." If something seems missing in Robin, always check the original conversation on LinkedIn first.

βš™οΈ How it works

The synchronization between LinkedIn and Robin works as follows:

  • No 'live' push: Messages do not appear the exact second they are sent. Robin checks for updates every few minutes.

  • Recent history: For long conversations, Robin retrieves the most recent messages. Very old messages remain on LinkedIn but may not always be re-fetched into Robin.

  • Recruiter & InMail: Robin looks specifically at your LinkedIn Recruiter mailbox. If a check fails or your session is stale, the message will show up in Robin later.

πŸ› οΈ Configuration (What do you need?)

To establish the connection, Robin follows your browser's active session. Ensure these three requirements:

  1. Browser: Use Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge.

  2. Robin Extension: Ensure the Chrome extension is installed and enabled (it works in Edge as well).

  3. Active Login: You must be logged into LinkedIn in the same browser.

Tip: You do not need to keep LinkedIn open in a tab all day. However, it is necessary to open LinkedIn occasionally to refresh your 'session.' This keeps the connection alive.

πŸš€ Output & User Experience

When everything is set up correctly:

  • new candidate replies are automatically linked to the correct file in Robin;

  • you can follow up on conversations from a single overview;

  • you reduce the need to switch between multiple tabs, significantly speeding up your workflow.

⚠️ The limits we have (Why am I missing something?)

Because we depend on LinkedIn's technology, there are scenarios where data may differ:

  • Session expired: If you haven't opened LinkedIn in a while, LinkedIn may temporarily block access for Robin. Simply opening LinkedIn fixes this.

  • Read status: LinkedIn is sensitive to whether a message is marked as 'read.' This can affect how quickly Robin detects the update.

  • LinkedIn Updates: LinkedIn frequently updates its system. This can sometimes cause a temporary gap in synchronization.

❓ FAQ

  • Do I need to keep LinkedIn open in a tab all day? No. As long as you are logged into Chrome or Edge and the extension is active, the sync works in the background.

  • Is Robin as fast as LinkedIn? No. Robin checks for new messages at set intervals. A delay of a few minutes is normal.

  • Why does Robin show fewer messages than LinkedIn? For very long threads, Robin only refreshes the most recent window of messages. The full history is always preserved on LinkedIn.

  • Does Robin work without the extension? No, the extension is the essential 'bridge' required to securely transfer data from LinkedIn to Robin.
